Self-Esteem Activities

There are activities that can help you build self-esteem and feel better about yourself. Read through them below, and do those that appear most comfortable to you.

One more thing... Do them often. That's the key.

A Self-Esteem Activity: Make Your Affirmation Lists

Make these lists on a piece of paper or in your diary. Re-read them often, and rewrite them occasionally. These lists will help you raise your self-esteem.

So, make a list of...

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...

That mirror in your bathroom or bedroom can do you a big favor. How many times have you seen people throw mirrors or throw something at mirrors because they don't like what they see? Many times perhaps.

So begin by looking at yourself in the mirror and making sure you like what you see in it.

Looking good physically is important, so take the time to fix yourself. Go to the parlor or gym and work on it. It is important that you like what you see in the mirror to start making yourself feel better.

When you've done that, look at the mirror every morning and say, "I love myself". Not because you're narcissistic and proud, but because you love the "unique you" who has so much to offer to the world!

Positive Affirmations To Boost Self-Esteem

Affirmations are positive statements about yourself that make you feel better about yourself. They describe the ways you would like to feel about yourself all the time.

Here are examples of affirmations to help you make your own list:

Make your own list of affirmations. Keep the list in a handy place like your pocket, wallet or purse. Make a few copies of your list so you can have them in different places for easy access.

Read the affirmations over and over to yourself. Read them aloud whenever you can.

Rewrite them as you see fit. When you do this, the affirmations will tend to become true for you as time passes. You'll gradually come to feel better about yourself.

Your "Celebrate Life", Self-Esteem Calendar

Get a calendar with large blank spaces for each day.

For each day, schedule some small thing you would enjoy doing, such as "call my brother/sister," "buy a new DVD/CD," "tell my son/daughter I love him/her," "bake cookies," "lie in the sun for 15 minutes," or "wear my favorite cologne/perfume".

Then make a commitment to check your "Celebrate Life" calendar every day and do whatever you have scheduled for yourself.

Your Own Personal "Celebratory Scrapbook"

Create a scrapbook that celebrates "You" and the wonderful person you are.

Add pictures of yourself at different times of your life, poems or quotations you enjoy, things you have done and places you have been to, or greeting cards you have received from loved ones.

A Fun Self-Esteem Activity: Have A Fun Day With Friends!

Have a regular "fun day" with close friends, perhaps every week.

Surrounding yourself with people may not be enough. You have to spend that day with really close friends and do nothing but celebrate the "highs" of your week.

Think of something like the "snap cup" in the movie "Legally Blonde", and have a session with friends every week.

Why have this self-esteem boosting activity every week?

It is helpful to have something to look forward to every week. Aside from helping you raise and keep your self-esteem, this gives you a chance to bond with your friends.

The key to benefiting from the self-esteem building activities in this list is REPETITION. Do these self-esteem activities often, do them regularly, and you'll benefit from them.
